Solihull Model Railway Circle - The Manor House, Solihull

Painting above show The Manor House in 1951 under renovation, before becoming used by Solihull clubs including Solihull Model Railway.

Club Premises
Initially, we believe that members met at each other's houses, changing by December 1952 to the Manor House, High Street, Solihull at 7:30pm on alternate Thursday evenings.

By July 1965 the club was meeting at the premises of R. W. Mewett at Norton Lane, Earlswood, Solihull, Warwickshire.

Soon after this, the club moved to Colebrook Boys' Club, Colebrook Road, Shirley.

Between about 1976 and 1979, the club moved to the scout hut at the rear of Tidbury Green School, Dickens Heath Road, Tidbury Green. At some time after this move, the regular club night changed from Thursday to Tuesday as the scouts started to meet on Thursday nights. After the scouts left, the hut was shared with a Tidbury Green dancing class. The club moved when a Birmingham theatre group took over the whole hut to store their stage props.

During late 1987 the SMRC moved to the hut of the 233rd Birmingham Sea Scout Group, off Robin Hood Lane, Hall Green. In early July 2005 we were given a month's notice that the land the hut was built on was to be sold as the Scouts were ending their activities there due to declining numbers and moving to the nearby Scout hut on Highfield Road, Hall Green.

On the morning of Sunday the 8th of August 2005, we moved to the larger former premises of the 3rd Solihull St. Mary's Scouts on Hob's Meadow road, Olton, Solihull, shared with the Solihull 'G' Gauge Group. The hut is next to the site of the moated manor house in Hob's Moat woods, believed to have been built in the 13th century to replace the old manor of Ulverlei by William de Odingsells, the nephew and heir of the probable founder of Solihull, Baron John de Limesi.
