Severn Valley Railway
Club Outing: 12th October 2003
Five club members set off at 9.00am on Sunday 12th October
2003 to the Kidderminster end of the SVR (Severn Valley
Railway). Arriving in good time we boarded the first
train of the day 9.55am. We were guided by the experienced
travellers with us John and Bernard who suggested the
itinerary.
To take in the full experience of travelling on the
SVR, we stayed on the train until its journey's end,
not alighting until Bridgnorth. With plenty of time
before the return train, we made the short walk to Bridgnorth
Town Centre, passing the Fenicular Railway linking Bridgenorth
High Town with Bridgenorth Low Town (opens at 12.00).
Catching the next train back we alighted at Hampton
Loade. Coinciding with the Classic Car and Bike Day,
we had the bonus of viewing at each station a variety
of classic cars; MGB's & MGBGT; Rover P4,5 and 6's,
Humber Sceptre, Riley's, Aston Martin, Ford Capri Mk1,
and many others too many to mention.
From Hampton Loade we travelled to Bewdley spending
the time scouring the second hand book and trade shops
at the station, before returning back to Highly.
Highly gave us an opportunity to view the interesting
history of the area at the visitor centre and to refuel
with the Hot Dogs on offer.
From Highly we made our final journey back to Kidderminster.
Took a last look at the last bargains on offer at the
trade stand before travelling home.
